antenna-strike-1On Friday, August 14, 91.3 KVLU Public Radio suffered a massive lightning strike to the transmission antennae array located at the transmitter site in Rose City. The strike caused instantaneous damage to the transmission cable and possibly the antennas, resulting in an interruption in service.

Crews are currently working to assess the damage and determine the best course of action for repair. Meanwhile, the station is operating on a small back-up antenna at reduced power. Listeners can still receive a signal in their cars as well as on digital radio or streaming online from the station website at kvlu.org.

“We identify and share in our listeners’ frustration,” says station manager Byron Balentine. “We are working to return to full power as soon as possible.”
